District News and Updates

5Essentials Survey Time Again

It's that time once again that we are asking all of our parents to fill out the 5Essentials survey. This is an annual survey that helps us grow as a district. It provides valuable feedback on how we are doing and what we can do to improve. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. The survey is available in both English and Spanish. Also, an important thing to note is this survey is school-specific, not district-specific. So if you have children at both Nathan Hale and Heritage, we ask that you fill out the survey twice - once for each building. Thank you.

Nathan Hale Updates:

Pre-K has a new Pizza Parlor!

We are building our math, literacy, social emotional and cognitive skills while working with pizza themed lessons in different stations.

Our dramatic area has been a hit as it is a new pizza parlor. The Beggars Pizza restaurant in Lansing was kind enough to donate some pizza boxes to us that the kids love using. We are very thankful.

Pre-K's extra special activity this week was making our very own pizzas.

We used English muffins, pizza sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. They were delicious! We discussed different shapes, counted ingredients, worked with measurements, and discovered many new words while we cooked.

And one of our black history facts of the week was that Alice Mae Redmond was the creator of a delish recipe of Chicago's famous Deep Dish Dough. :)

STEM LEGO Time

Our K-4 Lego Wall in is complete! The students of all grades were allowed to “christen” what is called The Wall in the STEAM room (Room 48). Daily Lego time is provided and future builders are emerging! Happy students can be seen here!

7th Grade Math Students Race the Clock

Mrs. Saucier's RtI class worked on solving linear equations in math centers on February 2nd. It was a race against the clock to complete a series of questions that involved students writing equations, solving equations, and determining the number of solutions for each linear equation. This math activity puts their skills to the test. Way to keep pushing play with challenges, Seventh Grade Scholars!

6th Graders Learn About the Greek Gods

Sixth graders have been learning about Greek mythology. Here are two good examples of the "Greek Mythology Assignment" that were done on Canva.

8th Grade WIN

Students in eighth grade WIN are expanding their vocabularies using Free Rice, which is a website everyone can find through Clever. For every correct answer, Freerice.com donates funds to the UN World Food Programme (WFP). Grade 8 students who are seeking additional help can have their grades checked, check in with teachers who are still at school (or email teachers) about missing work, and Connect 4 books can be read in a quieter setting. Once student work is done, Free Rice is often used as a fun and engaging way to learn and help others. Using this website, WIN students find that a grain of rice donated can equal a grain of knowledge gained.

HMS Soccer Club is Back

The soccer club is back! During session seven, we did some drills and played mini-scrimmages.
