Heritage Track Update

We are excited that the Heritage track project is moving along at a pretty quick pace now.  You can see below where we currently are with the project.  You can get a birds eye view of the track from the perspective of our future runners.  As the project moves forward, we will continue to send updates so you can see the progress they are making.

America Discovery 250 Relay is Almost Here

On October 14, Sunnybrook will be participating the America 250 relay that will be traveling through Lansing. The event will start off at North Creek Meadow at 8:00 am where the Heritage Cross Country team will be moving the baton along the trail to Lansing Woods. From there, the baton will be handed off to the District 158 Bike Club where it will travel on 186th Street to TF South High School.  At the corner of 186th and Burnham Avenue, there will be a group performance of the Heritage, Memorial, and TF South Bands. At the conclusion of the Bands' performance, the baton will continue its way down 186th to Wentworth Avenue.  Once at Wentworth, the baton will head north to the Pennsy Greenway rail-trail where the three schools will once again perform, but this time as a Group Choir.  In addition, our essay winner will be revealed and acknowledged.  From there, the baton will move up the trail to the state line where it will be handed off to the town of Munster and continue on its way across the country.

Please come on out and support our students and participate in this once in a generation event. It will be a great day to show your community spirit!

Nathan Hale Updates:

Kindergarten is Making Choices

Kindergarten students took home order forms and permission slips where they chose which drink they wanted. Parents/guardians signed off on students' choices of either pink lemonade or chocolate milk. When it was time to “order” their drinks, students practiced using complete sentences to place their orders and enjoyed their drink of choice. After everyone ordered, we counted how many students chose pink lemonade and how many chose chocolate milk. We also connected the activity to respecting others’ choices and discussed the fact that everyone likes different things, and that’s okay!

Second Grade Learns Fire Safety

Our second graders and the Lansing Fire Department have teamed up for the fourth year of the "Learn Not To Burn" Program. Students learned all about fire safety and the importance of working smoke detectors and the need for a meeting place where everyone will go in the event of an emergency. Having a fire safety plan emergency plan could save a life. We will have monthly visits from the Lansing Fire Department from now until February. Thank you to the Lansing Fire Department for educating our students at Nathan Hale!

On Tuesday, September 29, Amamihe students came together during their grade level RtI classes to learn more about the House of Wisdom and to practice collaboration and teamwork during our planned activities. Students learned more about each other and what it means to be a respectful and productive member of a group. Featured in the photos are our fifth graders who participated in the fun plans that were featured in their House meeting. We look forward to future House RtI days so we can showcase our good ideas and put our great skills to good use!

Heritage Eagles School Store Celebrates Grand Opening!

As part of Heritage Middle School’s Positive Behavior Incentives, the Eagles School Store officially celebrated its grand opening on Friday, September 25! Students earn Eagle Bucks for demonstrating positive behavior and making good choices.

Students can deposit earned Eagle Bucks for the chance to shop for a variety of fun prizes, school supplies, games, technology accessories, and other special items. The Eagles School Store will be open every other Friday during Specials classes, giving students opportunities to earn, save, and shop throughout the school year.

We encourage parent, staff, and local business donations to help us continue providing exciting incentives that recognize and support students for making positive choices.

Keep earning those Eagle Bucks, Eagles, and we’ll see you at the Store!
